Workshops & Training

Workshops people actually do, not sit through.

Every workshop here is built from interactive lessons I teach at postgraduate level — simulations, labs and challenges that run in the browser — reshaped for teams. You can open a piece of each one right now and try it before you book.

Leadership, teams & delivery

For managers, project teams and leadership groups — the human and strategic side of building things.

The Collaboration Reflex

Most teams reach for “let's find the win-win” by default. Using real, anonymised conflicts, participants learn to read which response a conflict actually needs — then analyse each other's anonymised conflicts in a structured swap.

  • Read a conflict with four practical frameworks before responding
  • Separate the root cause from the surface argument
  • Name the mode that was used — and the one that should have been

Agile & Scrum, seen from the inside

Waterfall, Spiral, PRINCE2 and Agile drawn rather than described; Scrum up close in a 3D studio where a team builds a parcel drone over three Sprints; then an outside-auditor round where teams audit a project they didn't run.

  • Choose a delivery approach by asking which constraint can move
  • Run every Scrum event with a clear purpose and timebox
  • Audit a project honestly and write a one-page corrective plan

Threats, platforms & strategy

How Netflix, Apple, Adobe, Microsoft and NZ Post turned threats into strategy; why Uber owns no cars and the App Store writes no apps; then a Business Model Canvas on your own idea.

  • Flip the threats facing your organisation into strategic options
  • Understand network effects, governance and the chicken-and-egg problem
  • Lay out a business model on one page and pressure-test it

Technology & data

For product, engineering and analytics teams — and for the managers who work with them.

Think like an attacker: the SwiftShop lab

A deliberately insecure online shop with twenty hidden vulnerabilities — editable price tags, secrets in the page source, XSS, privilege escalation and business-logic flaws. Teams find them, exploit them safely, then explain the fix.

  • Spot common web vulnerabilities from the attacker's side
  • See the business-logic flaws that automated scanners miss
  • Leave with a fix-it checklist for your own product

Data & machine learning, without the maths

Linear regression, decision trees and random forests explained by moving a line until it fits and growing a tree until it cheats — then real Python in the browser and a first Power BI chart. Nothing to install.

  • Explain what AI and ML actually are, and where you already use them
  • Read a model's output critically — and say what it can't tell you
  • Build a first chart in Power BI

From idea to live website with AI

Design a layout in Google Stitch, turn it into real code with Claude Code, and put it live on GitHub Pages — in one sitting. Includes a prompt generator for your own site.

  • Take an idea to a published website in one session
  • Know what AI coding tools do well — and where you still need judgement
  • Leave with a live page you can keep improving

Immersive tech & education

For educators, museums, tourism and marketing teams exploring what's next.

Augmented reality, no headset needed

A hands-on walk through AR, VR and mixed reality with demos that run in a phone browser — hang a virtual object in the air, turn away, find it again — plus what research says about where AR genuinely helps.

  • Tell AR, VR and mixed reality apart — and pick the right one
  • Know where immersive tech adds value in your context, and where it doesn't
  • Sketch a first concept using evidence-based design principles

The interactive classroom

How to turn a lecture into something students do: simulations, live coding, leaderboards and knowledge checks that run in the browser — and clear, fair rules for AI in assignments.

  • Redesign one of your own lessons into an interactive one
  • Use game mechanics that reward persistence, not just speed
  • Set AI-use rules students understand and can follow

How it works

Tailored to your team, kept after the day

Tailored

Your context, not a template

Before the session we talk through your team, your goals and the examples that will land. Workshops can be combined into a full day or split across shorter sessions.

Hands-on

Doing, not watching

Every workshop is built around activities participants complete themselves — best with groups of roughly 8 to 30. Larger groups can work as a keynote plus breakout sessions.

Lasting

Materials stay open

The lessons behind each workshop are free online, so participants can go back to them — and share them with colleagues — long after the day.

Formats & fees. In person anywhere in New Zealand and online worldwide. Workshops are paid engagements; the fee depends on length, group size and travel, and is agreed up front. Consulting and training are my own independent practice, separate from my university and college roles.

Pick a workshop — or tell me the problem and I'll shape one.
