Research Visit to Tohoku University — Building an NZ–Japan AR Collaboration

In December 2025, Prof. Rob Lindeman and I (HIT Lab NZ, University of Canterbury) visited the Interactive Content Design Lab at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC), Tohoku University. We presented our research on location-based augmented reality and immersive interaction, and explored a joint research project bridging New Zealand and Japan — connecting two leading labs working at the frontier of spatial computing and human–computer interaction.

Selected for Falling Walls Lab Aotearoa New Zealand 2024

I was one of nineteen researchers and innovators chosen from across Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific to pitch a breakthrough idea in just three minutes at Falling Walls Lab Aotearoa New Zealand 2024, organised by Royal Society Te Apārangi. My pitch — “Breaking the Wall of Loneliness through Play” — explored how location-based augmented reality games can bring people together and ease loneliness through shared experiences.
